Seek to Stay Sharp

When Stephen Covey wrote his now famous book, 7 Habits of Highly Effective People, he included an entire chapter entitled, Habit 7: Sharpen the Saw.

Covey defined this, in part, as follows, “Sharpen the Saw means preserving and enhancing the greatest asset you have--you. It means having a balanced program for self-renewal…”

He was right.

We find in our work with business and non-profit leaders that there are key disciplines in which it is important for us to continue to learn.

Therefore we seek out opportuinities to learn from experts
and remain current with emerging trends.

Doing so allows us to stay on the cutting edge of leadership strategy, marketing effectiveness, and high-growth business development.  Naturally this includes staying on top of effective social media platforms and tools.

That is why a number of us had lunch with Amit Fulay, Product Manager for Google+.  This relatively new Google+ social media platform is already affecting the use of social media in general, and has caused their rivals to step up innovation and the pace of development, as each player competes to become - or to remain - an industry leader.

The point to this is that one of the most important postures for each of us in our areas of leadership is to remain humble and teachable – to constantly look for ways to learn, or as Covey articulates, to stay sharp.

What are you learning right now?  What resources are most helpful as you seek to stay sharp in your leadership arena ?  Let us know…
