A Leader Amongst Leaders

As the entire world is well aware, former British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher passed away a few days ago.  Attorney and news commentator Greta Van Susteren referred to Ms. Thatcher as a person who “was either loved or loathed.”

Indeed, it does seem that leaders who make a significant mark in their world are able to take a strong stand – and in so doing create momentum for change and receive the applause of those who welcome it.  On the other hand, these same leaders by the very same actions raise the dander of people who are not interested in change and who in some cases actually despise the change agents who foster such new beginnings. And as Greta pointed out, so it was with this heroic Prime Minister.

Her enemies in the former Soviet Union even nick-named her the

“Iron Lady”

She was both.

And so once again we observe that Leadership does have a price.  Yet as brave Ms. Thatcher well-demonstrated, capable leadership will produce the fruit of change that can stand the test of time....and is therefore worth cashing the check to pay for the personal-price-tag of pot-shots from one’s critics.

In short, if one is to lead, there will be a price to pay.

And it will likely be worth it.

Well done, Lady Thatcher, well done.
