The Courage to See It Through

We have looked at several aspects of courage over the past few weeks, including the need for courage in leadership, the willingness to face and learn from failure, the essential need to develop a heart of courage, the value of friends who remind us to remain courageous, the direct correlation between Courage and Truth, and the courage to go first.

We will close the series on Courage by providing a final thought:  Sometimes it takes courage to stick it out – to remain in a difficult or uncomfortable situation and see it through to the end.  Remember that we have already opened the escape hatch and commented that there is a need to courageously leave some settings – we are not therefore advocating remaining in any kind of abusive environment when it is time to get out.

On the other hand, there are times when we can learn the most by seeing something through to the finish line. Whether it is a task, a goal, a friendship, or a more significant relationship, sometimes it is best – and courageous – to see it through.

There is a reason that leadership is called leadership.  Usually it is because sorting through the options and choosing a course of action – then actually acting on it - is not for the weak (and not for followers).

Leadership takes courage.  And sometimes, courage is best expressed by finishing what we started.
